Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum

When people hear about the Air and Space Museum in D.C., they think of the museum on the Mall. But 30 miles away, in Chantilly VA, is the Udvar-Hazy Center, an annex to the main Air and Space Museum. Opened in 2003, the Udvar-Hazy is outstanding!! There are tons of aircraft and spacecraft in multiple hangars, including the Space Shuttle Discovery, the Concord, and the Enola Gay, just to name a few. We liked that the Discovery was not “prettied up”. I.e. it showed the Shuttle as it appears upon reentry, with evidence of the heat shield’s important role right there in front of you. We also saw the IMAX production of The Blue Angels…up, up, and away!
